With just one match left in this new “super series” format between England and Sri Lanka the home nation have proven themselves completely dominant
Winning the test series comes as no surprise – the visitors were never going to be able to cope with Anderson and Broad in home conditions – but I expected a sterner test in the 50-over format.
Make no mistake about it – Sri Lanka are a decent one day outfit – with a lot of experience running through the side but England have simply swept them aside. Even in the match when they were chasing 300 plus in just over 40 overs the result never looked in doubt. The batting line up is so strong – the number 11 has a first class century or two to his name – and the bowling attack strong and varied. I’ve been particularly impressed with Adil Rashid and Liam Plunkett. With Ben Stokes due back I would expect Moeen Ali and Chris Jordan to make way but both will remain very much in the selectors’ minds and it’s important they continue to play and be a part of the squad.
Great to see Joe Root to return to ‘form’ (‘form to Root is a relative term to the rest of the mere mortals in the side).
Well done England!
