ಗುರುವಾರದಂದು 23 June Britain (ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ, England and Wales – the Scots are seemingly more sensible) voted to leave the European Union.
As the stark reality of what the nation had thrust upon itself sunk in I was in a rather depressed state of mind. At work I couldn’t even stomach my bacon buttie such was my frustration with the plebiscite.
But driving home I switched on the radio and was greeted by the welcoming and soothing tones of the BBC’s coverage of the cricket. Jonathan Agnew was holding court and suddenly all felt good again.
Of course I’m not crazy enough to suggest that Test Match Special (ಅಥವಾ TMS ಇದು ಚಿಕ್ಕದಾಗಿ ಹಾಗೆ) is a cure for all the world’s many ills but to hear that cricket is still being played and calm collected voices are pointing out the relative merits of a solid forward defensive whilst others around them lose their heads – well as long as it’s going I guess I will be too!
